A number of Versus-Environment players quit over this issue: every one was a lost revenue stream for IAH. Numerous players complained they couldn't complete their quests because high level squads were monopolizing the boss (since Hellbreaker also dropped valuable loot).

During the first year of Granado Espada, one of the highest level quests could only be gotten from a raid boss called Hellbreaker. King Henry isn't the first time IMC has mucked up the game mechanics for versus-Environment players. The players who want to fight other players have a "PK" server to go to.

The reason IAH invested in a non-PK server is to provide fun and rake in profits from Versus-Environment players. Versus-Environment players like to solve problems, work on quests, and kill fantastic monsters. The server I play on is defined as "non-PK" (non Player Kill), which implies that many people chose that server because they have more fun playing against the challenges of the environment than dueling other players. After this improvement, why did IMC retreat back to the free-for-all (or free-to-monopolize) model for King Henry? This would have been a step backward even if King Henry weren't also part of the quest line. While small groups of players had been previously able to take over the maps/raids that offered the best items (such as Gate of Lightning and Ice Wizard's Tower), Castilla rewarded players for working together and offered everyone who participated a chance at the best loot.

I thought Castilla was the game developer IMC's way of countering these high level cybersquatters. My quest was done, but it really bothered me that quest content had been taken over by these high level squads, the same ones that have monopolized so many other free-for-all content areas of Granado Espada. Luckily one squad was willing to include me, and - even more lucky - they won. Friends shrugged and said their squad was full. However, the worst moment was when I woke up at 5am to get to King Henry at the right time and discovered the throne room was filled with legions of high level players, most of which had already completed the quest, who were there to compete with each other for King Henry's treasure. During that time I wasted certain timed items I had spent real money on: dungeon passes, special costumes with stats, experience-boosters, etc. Because the raiding squads were highly motivated to keep the times of King Henry's appearance secret, I ended up wasting the entry fee several times and spending days "camping" in King Henry's throne room. I was very lucky to finish the King Henry quest. Even if those squads are made up of decent, well-meaning people, their squad is usually already filled to its limit in order to improve their competitive chances. However, King Henry is also a "raid boss", which means large squads of the top players on the server turn up every time King Henry appears, and they are more interested in competing with each other to win King Henry's treasure than to help wandering versus-Environment players finish their quest. As a versus-Environment player, I need to get an item from King Henry to complete a quest. One thing I'm not a fan of is the King Henry quest, where versus-Environment players have been pitted against versus-Player players. IahedIn previous posts I've mentioned I'm a big fan of Granado Espada's new Castilla maps, and the underlying business model that supports that content.
